FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding craniosacral therapy (CST), along with their answers:

  • CST is a gentle, hands-on approach that aims to enhance the body's natural healing abilities by addressing the cranio-sacral system, which includes the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord.

  • CST is beneficial for a wide range of conditions, including headaches, migraines, neck and back pain, stress-related disorders, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, fibromyalgia, and emotional issues. It's also used to support pregnancy and postpartum recovery.

  • The number of sessions needed varies depending on the individual's condition, goals, and response to treatment. Some people may experience significant improvement after just a few sessions, while others may require ongoing sessions for chronic or complex issues. I can provide guidance on the recommended treatment plan based on your specific needs.

  • During a CST session, you will typically lie fully clothed on a massage table while I use light touch hand techniques to assess and address areas of tension or restriction in your body. The session is designed to promote relaxation, release tension, and support your body's natural healing processes.

  • Unlike some other forms of bodywork that may involve deeper pressure or manipulation, CST is extremely gentle and non-invasive. It focuses on facilitating changes in the craniosacral system by listening to the body's inherent rhythms and promoting self-correction.

  • CST is suitable for individuals of all ages. It can benefit anyone seeking relief from physical discomfort, stress, or emotional issues. Pregnant women, infants, children, and the elderly can all benefit from CST as it is gentle and non-invasive.

  • Clients report a wide variety of experiences during a session, including relaxation and a sense of ease, warmth and tingling sensations, a sense of harmony and peace, increased energy, seeing different colours and patterns, remembering past events, getting in touch with emotions, and deepening self and body awareness.

  • CST is a perfect complement to talking therapies. Physically processing emotional issues and trauma held in the body supports the work of counselling and psychotherapy.

  • CST is intended to work alongside the healthcare service provided by your doctor. If you have a particular concern about your health, you should always consult your GP. I do not diagnose or prescribe medication.
